Tatjana Levitan, an artist from St.Petersburg, is an expressionist and has exhibited her works in southern Germany since July of this year. She concentrates on portraits, landcapes and still lives. Her expressionist style developed directly from the roots of the Russian avantgarde through Salomon Gershov who was a student of Chagall, Malevitch and Fikolov in Vitebsk For Tatjana Levitan her model is a symbol, a letter which testifies to the many mysteries of life. Her paintings are deeply tragic and expressive and her models are only the starting point for the entry into an esoteric world. The artist selects her models and “writes”, as she calls it, the life of a person. While she does that, she turns into a medium. In this way she is able to show the conflicts in that person. This experience turns into a metaphore which she puts into oil and space. Press Information Wörgl, 1997 (transl. Nowak)

Tatjana Lewitan ... constructs her poignant pictures of expressionist realism according to the musical principles of rhythm and harmony.
